A student will be considered tardy if not in their ASSIGNED SEAT when the bell rings.
Proper uniform is expected at all times (XCP handbook pg 23).
ABSOLUTELY NO food, drink or gum is allowed in the classroom at any time. This includes water bottles (XCP Handbook pg 27).
Expected at all times: courtesy to all persons, respect for all persons and respect for every students property.
The first 5 minutes of class is to be silent . During this time:
- Pencils are to be sharpened
- Homework is readied for discussion
- A "clearing" should be entered into the students compbook.
Failure to comply with any of these rules will result in a detention being issued.
These are the procedures that we will use to guide us in learning:
All class notes are to be neatly kept in your 8 x 10 graph paper compbook. This compbook will be randomly collected and graded for 10 points.
Writing Assignments (W.A.) are given twice per chapter. They are due at the beginning of the next class period. A zero will be issued if "you forgot it".
Each homework is to be headed correctly:
ALL work is to be done individually (unless otherwise directed). ANY person caught by me or another student sharing or receiving answers will receive a zero for the assignment and referred to the Dean. (XCP handbook p 17).
Pass papers backwards.
NO restroom runs will be granted. Go to the bathroom on YOUR break or lunch or between classes (yes, there is plenty of time). DON’T ASK! If you have a medical condition I must be notified by the nurse.
It is to be quiet (very low voices if any) during class – even in group learning.
YOUR grade is up to YOU. I only put what YOU earn into the computer and it tallies it up. It is up to YOU to keep track of your grade/points – Don’t Ask, but we can compare during 8th hour. If you do not understand something PLEASE come see me A.S.A.P.! and I will help you!
The only extra credit I offer is to write a paper on a female mathematician or a paper on how math is used in a particular career. It is worth up to 5 points (based on it’s professionalism). The guidelines are:
An IN-DEPTH, thorough, and interesting report about a female mathematician (a woman who made a difference in the world through the use of mathematics) or a paper on how math is used in a specific career.
It can be no shorter than 2 complete (full) type written pages (Single spaced). You may complete one per quarter only. It is due anytime up to one week before the end of the quarter (refer to your handbook for dates).
Your topic must be cleared by me (as to not have 25 reports on the same person or career).
A proper title page and citations/bibliography must be included.
I strongly suggest you get a study buddy in case you need help or missed the day’s assignment or whatever.
I do not round grades. I will take into consideration your performance and participation but a 89.4 is a B.
